Bonalu to start on June 22; Telangana govt allots Rs.15 crore

HYDERABAD: The State Government has allocated Rs.15 crore for the celebration of Bonalu festival in the city.
The Mahankali Bonalu festival is a traditional event celebrated in different parts of the city.
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Cinematography Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who convened a meeting with officials and different stakeholders here on Friday, said that the Telangana Government declared Bonalu as a state festival, soon after the formation of the state. The festival was being celebrated in a grandiose manner that would explain the culture and tradition of Telangana to the world. The Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu will start with Golconda aashadha bonalu on June 22. The famous Secunderabad Mahankali temple bonalu would be held on July 9 and “Rangam” would be held on July 10.
The Lal Darwaza Bonalu would be held on July 16. A procession would be organised for all temples on July 17.
The meeting was attended by Endowments Minister Indrakaran Reddy, Labour Minister C Malla Reddy, City Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi, Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari and DGP Anjani Kumar and other officials participated in the meeting.
