HYDERABAD: A minor tension prevailed near Miyapur metro station on Saturday, when the police prevented sympathisers of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and IT employees from staging a protest, ‘Let’s Metro for CBN’, to condemn the 'illegal arrest' of former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

As part of their protest, the followers of the TDP and IT employees sported black shirts and reached Miyapur metro station to travel to LB Nagar. Alert police and metro staff prevented the agitators from entering the metro station. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) suspended MLA Undavalli Sridevi who extended her solidarity to the agitators at Miyapur metro station.

Citing technical issues, the police closed the Miyapur metro station for a while. With agitators mounting pressure to continue their protest, the police allowed them to travel on the metro rail. At LB Nagar, several agitators who wore black shirts rushed to the nearby D-Mart store and changed their costumes and participated in the protest after police prevented them from entering the metro station.

In Madhura Nagar, the police shifted the agitators to a nearby police station to avoid law and order problems. The agitators were also involved in a verbal duel with metro rail passengers who suggested to them not to agitate in Hyderabad.

A passenger who objected to the protesters raising slogans on board the metro rail, said: "Why are you protesting here? I also belong to Vijayawada. If you want to protest, do it there. There is a judicial process going on. You don't need to protest here."
