Enveloped in fog, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada relish rare, Kashmir-like experience

VIJAYAWADA: Despite the winter season coming to the end, an unusual spell of cold wave and dense fog is making for a pleasant experience in some parts of Andhra Pradesh. There is a sudden dip in temperatures for a week now in the midst of chilly weather even as cities like Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam are enveloped in dense fog during the early morning hours.

Whatever is the reason for this unusual phenomenon at this time of the year, the foggy conditions are definitely creating beautiful scenes that one can associate only with Kashmir and Ooty. Knowing that this is the last flurry of winter weather before the scorching summer heat, residents of Andhra Pradesh, especially those in the two major cities, are relishing these pleasant weather conditions.

However, dense fog in Visakhapatnam is also causing some difficulties on the flipside for the people going out on daily chores. The blinding effect of the thick fog is lasting until 9 am. Motorists are facing hardships on the national highway and are being forced to suspend their journey for hours to avoid accidents due to poor visibility. On the other hand, mango farmers are a worried lot as the fog may cause damage to the mango fields.

With no such worries as of now, the people of Vijayawada are however fully soaking in the pleasant weather. For a region that, for most part of the year, remains humid and hot, the current cool conditions are nothing short of a Kashmir-like experience
