SRIKAKULAM: A rare dead blue whale came afloat to the shores of old Meghavaram beach in Santabommali mandal of Srikakulam district on Friday.
People of the village believe that the dead blue whale, which measures about 25 feet long and weighs approximately 5 tons is rarely found in the Bay of Bengal and suspect that this particular whale may have died after entering into small water bodies.
These blue whales are known to be one of the heaviest species on the earth. However, the latest one found is said to be a juvenile as it weighs only about 5 tons.
Meanwhile, as the news of the whale coming afloat has spread on social media, and the villagers flocked to the beach to witness it.
