Road on top of drainage stream caves in in Goshamahal

HYDERABAD: In a bizarre incident, the road on top of a drainage stream (naala) caved in in Hyderabad on Friday. The incident happened at Chaknavadi in Goshamahal area, leaving a huge crater along the path of the sewage stream. Several cars, auto-rickshaws and pushcarts kept on top of it suffered extensive damage as they fell into the crater.

A weekly street market was being organised on the road in the area on Friday. The layer of the road on top of the drainage stream apparently could not withstand the excessive weight due to the movement of vehicles and people at the market. As soon as the road caved in, the police rushed to the area and restricted vehicular movement in the locality. People from the neighbourhood have also been evacuated as a safety measure.

The exact cause for the caving-in was yet to be ascertained. The incident caused panic in the area with people fearing about similar occurrences there.
