PRAKASAM: The plight of villagers of Ravipadu, located in Cumbum mandal of Prakasam district, has gone unheard for years, for they had to walk through a canal to perform funerals. In some cases, cremations would be stalled for days when the flow into the canal is high.

The situation came to light after the village Sarpanch also faced the same issue. Him being a member of the ruling party, escalated this issue to the local MLA. However, despite multiple requests, there was no action taken.

Reportedly, villagers repeatedly requested the government to construct a bridge over the river to address this issue, but their pleas have gone in vain. The negligence continued despite Ravipadu being a significant panchayat in the Giddalur constituency,

The villagers also demanded that District Collector Dinesh Kumar should come forward and ensure that a place is provided to perform funeral rituals in a dignified and hassle-free manner.
