AMARAVATI: The Centre has approved the construction of an iconic cable bridge over Krishna River connecting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Union Road Transport and National Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that approval was given for the construction of an iconic cable-stayed cum suspension bridge across the Krishna River between the two Telugu states at a cost of Rs 1,082.56 crores.
"Iconic cable-stayed cum suspension bridge across Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has been approved at a total cost of Rs 1,082.56 crores with a construction period of 30 months," tweeted the Union Minister. He further said that the hybrid structural arrangement in the bridge would give a structural advantage to it and make it economical as well as aesthetically pleasing.
The bridge will have several unique features like the longest glass pedestrian walkway across a river, signature lighting and a large navigation span. The bridge is expected to reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Tirupati by 80 km.
"The bridge will be built in close proximity to the Srisailam reservoir and in the hilly region of the Nallamala forest. It is going to present an attractive view of Lalitha Someswara Swamy temple on the Telangana side and Sangameswaram temple on the Andhra Pradesh side, making it a potential tourist destination," said the Union Minister.
