Maha Shivaratri fervour marks AP, Telangana, devotees flock to famous Shiva temples

HYDERABAD: The Maha Shivaratri fervour marked the two Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with devotees flocking to Lord Shiva temples to offer prayers. The two States were filled with spiritual vibes as people offered prayers in various temples in various ways. Devotees were seen taking holy dips in rivers and ponds at Shiva Shrines.

Telangana Endowment Minister Indrakaran Reddy, along with his wife, presented silk robes to the Vemulawada Lord Shiva temple. The couple performed special poojas and also wished the public.

Devotees visited the Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada of Rajanna Sircilla district in huge numbers.

In Andhra Pradesh too, Shiva Shrines were filled with devotees. The Pancharama Kshetra in Bhimavaram of West Godavari district echoed with Shiva chantings. The devotees performed special poojas to Lord Someswara Swamy. The deity, who appeared in brown during the new moon and in white during a full moon was appearing to the devotees by changing from white to brown colour. Devotees believe that by visiting Lord Someswara in Somaram and performing Abhishekam, one would get their wishes fulfilled and attain peace of mind.

As part of the Maha Shivaratricelebrations, a ‘Kalyanam’ will be performed for the lord in the evening followed by Rathotsavam on Sunday and Teppotsavam on Monday. The temple authorities completed all the arrangements for the devotees who come to visit the temple.

The Maha Shivaratri Brahmotsavams were also going on at Srisailam Mallanna Swamy temple in the erstwhile Kurnool district with fervour. Devotees from two Telugu states participated in the Brahmotsavam in large numbers. Tollywood actor and Megastar Chiranjeevi's wife Surekha visited the temple and took darshan.

Maha Shivaratri celebrations began at Daida Amaralingeshwara Shaiva Kshetra enshrined in a cave on the banks of the Krishna River in Gurazala Mandal of Palnadu District. According to Chief Priest Sanjeev, 120 years ago the villagers of Pulipadu found the Shiva lingam in a cave and started worshipping as Sri Amaralingeswara Swamy in this cave.

The celebrations are also going on at Amaravati Amareswara temple in Palanadu district.

Maha Shivaratri celebrations were also held in grandeur in Kotappakonda, the holiest place of Narasaraopet mandal in the Guntur district with priests performing special poojas to the deity with Binde Theertham and anointing Lord Trikoteshwar.
