Seven labourers die as mini lorry overturns in East Godavari

The driver fled the scene after the accident, leaving two others critically injured.

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: A tragic road accident in East Godavari district claimed the lives of seven labourers when a mini lorry overturned late on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred near Chilakavaripakalu in Devarapalli mandal on the road connecting the twin Godavari districts. Two others sustained severe injuries in the incident.

The mini lorry, carrying tamarind loads, was travelling from Borampalem village in T Narasapuram mandal of Eluru district to Tadimalla village in Nidadavolu mandal of East Godavari district. The vehicle lost control and plunged into a field near Chilakavaripakalu, overturning in the process.

At the time of the accident, nine people were onboard. The driver fled the scene after the accident. The seven labourers were trapped under the tamarind bags and died on the spot. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The deceased were identified as Deva Battula Boorayya (40), Tammireddy Satyanarayana (45), P. Chinnamusalayya (35), Katthava Krishna (40), Katthava Sattipandu (40), Tadi Krishna (45), and Bokka Prasad, all hailing from Tadimalla and nearby villages in Nidadavolu mandal.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
