SCR transports 100 million passengers in four months since April

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railways zone reached a significant milestone in August 2022, transporting 100 million passengers during the current fiscal year, thanks to the 22.14 million originating passengers it transported overall. The Zone transported 100.7 million passengers between April and August 2022, the current fiscal year.

Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager (In-Charge), South Central Railway, stated that SCR has been regularly monitoring the routes where there has been strong demand from passengers (both destination-wise and also for special events) in order to plan for the introduction of special trains. He added that South Central Railway's passenger segment continues to grow strongly in the current fiscal year.

The Zone recorded Rs 422.33 crores in passenger revenue in August, the best-ever performance for an August month in any year. The previous high was Rs 345.96 crore in August of 2019. The passenger revenue achieved during the month of August is also the second highest monthly passenger revenue recorded in any fiscal year, with the highest recorded in May of 2022. In the passenger segment, the zone earned Rs 2039.33 crores from April to August 2022.

In order to handle the increased demand during the holiday and festival season, 337 special train services were run from the Zone during August 2022. This helped to meet the transportation needs of 2.96 lakhs of passengers and generated Rs 20.19 crores in revenue. Similar to this, the Zone has been attaching additional coaches wherever it is practical to meet the increased demand from passengers on regular trains. In August 2022, 1,089 additional coaches were added to regular trains, allowing for the transportation of close to 80,000 more people and generating Rs 3.12 crores in revenue. As a result of all these actions, Zone recorded its best income for the month of August in any year.

In order to accommodate passenger demand, the Zone was among the first to restore 100% of mail express trains under its purview, according to Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager (In-Charge), South Central Railway. In addition, he was grateful for the traffic wing's superb cooperation in locating the most travelled routes and tailoring train operations to meet rail customers' needs. The general manager gave the authorities and employees instructions to keep up the current pace for the remainder of the fiscal year in order to produce the greatest results at the end of the fiscal year.
