Telangana has a culture of honouring great personalities beyond politics: KTR
KTR said that the BRS would provide suggestions and advice about the proposed new sports policy.
HYDERABAD: BRS Working President and Sircilla MLA K Taraka Rama Rao said Telangana has a culture of honouring great personalities beyond politics, which should continue.
Speaking in the Assembly during a discussion on the new sports policy on Friday, KTR said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had deep respect for Suravaram Pratap Reddy. He mentioned that the previous BRS government had decided to rename the Telugu University after him. However, it could not be done due to the lack of a bifurcation process for 10 years. He stated that the present Congress government should proceed with the renaming, and the BRS party would fully support it.
KTR mentioned the publication of the Golkonda Kavula Sanchika, featuring 394 poets, by the previous BRS government. He also highlighted the installation of a statue of G Venkataswamy and the celebration of Eshwari Bai's birth anniversary.
He noted the naming of various institutions after prominent figures: the Health University after Kaloji Narayan Rao, the Veterinary University after PV Narasimha Rao, the Horticulture University after Konda Laxman Bapuji, and the Agricultural University after Professor Jayashankar. An agricultural college in Sircilla has also been named after Babu Jagjivan Ram.
KTR added, "We renovated the auditorium in Desoddaraka Bhavan with Rs 5 crores, naming it after Suravaram Pratap Reddy."
He emphasised Telangana's tradition of honouring great personalities beyond politics and urged the ruling Congress party to continue this practice with full support from all quarters.
He said that the BRS would provide suggestions and advice about the proposed sports policy. "We have established rural sports grounds in every village in Telangana in the last 10 years. These grounds need to be improved and maintained," he said.
