HYDERABAD: BRS President and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has moved the Supreme Court to challenge the Telangana High Court's decision to dismiss his petition against a commission formed by the state government. The commission, headed by Justice L. Narasimha Reddy (retired), was tasked with investigating power purchase agreements during the BRS regime.

KCR's petition will be heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardhiwala and Manoj Misra. The petition challenges the High Court's June 24th order, which upheld the formation of the commission.

The Telangana government constituted the commission on March 14 to investigate Telangana power utilities' purchase of 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Chhattisgarh and the construction of thermal power plants at Bhadradri and Yadadri. The commission was also tasked with determining the rationale behind these decisions.

However, in his petition, KCR argued that the commission's formation contradicts the Commission of Inquiry Act of 1952 and the Electricity Act of 2003, seeking its annulment. He contends that any disputes regarding power purchases should be addressed by the Electricity Regulatory Authorities of Telangana and Chhattisgarh, not by the appointed commission.
