Poor Tribal girl unable to pursue medical education due to financial struggles

HYDERABAD: Shivabhargavi, a tribal student from Gudipadu in the Sathupalli area, has cleared the NEET exam twice but is unable to pursue her medical education due to financial difficulties. Her parents, Rajini Prasad and Nagamani, are now appealing to donors for support to help their daughter fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.

Shivabhargavi completed her intermediate studies (BiPC) at Ambedkar Social Welfare Girls' Junior Gurukul College in Khammam in 2020. That same year, she attempted the NEET exam and secured a rank in the reserved category, but her family’s poor financial condition prevented her from enrolling in a medical college.

Determined to achieve her goal, Shivabhargavi convinced her parents to let her attempt NEET again. Without the resources for coaching, she studied from home using YouTube classes and appeared for the exam once more. This year, she secured a state rank of 7,146 and an ST category rank of 567, earning a seat at Dr. Patnam Mahender Reddy Medical College in Chevella, Ranga Reddy district.

However, the cost of pursuing an MBBS degree under the 'A' category is approximately Rs 12.5 lakh over five years, with an annual fee of Rs 2.5 lakh. Although some reimbursement is available, it only covers a small portion of the expenses. Shivabhargavi's parents are unable to afford the fees, leaving them distressed and unsure how to proceed.
