HYDERABAD: The Telangana government temporarily suspended a new leave policy for battalion police constables on Friday after ongoing protests from their families.

Special Additional DGP issued orders late in the day, providing immediate relief to constables who had been facing extended leave intervals under the revised regulations.

Previously, battalion constables were allowed leave every 15 days. However, the recent Congress-led government introduced a new leave manual that extended this interval to 26 days. This policy change, formalised through a government order, sparked significant discontent among constables and their families, who argued that the extended intervals posed challenges for family time and welfare.

In response, families held multiple protests outside battalion offices and even attempted to rally at the Secretariat earlier today. With growing pressure, the government opted to pause the implementation of the new leave order, offering temporary relief to the constables while further discussions take place.
