HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has clarified that a Rs 2 lakh loan waiver would be applicable for every farmer family holding a patta passbook.

The Chief Minister made this clarification during the Collectors Conference held at the State Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the ration card would be used solely for family identification. He stated that while there are 90 lakh ration cards in the state, the number of farmer accounts with loans stands at 70 lakh. Additionally, he said nearly 6.36 lakh people without ration cards would also get the benefit of the crop loan waiver.

Revanth Reddy assured that no farmer would be denied the benefit due to the lack of a ration card. He instructed district collectors to hold a meeting with district bankers at 11 am on Thursday, July 18. He emphasised that funds released by the government for the loan waiver should be exclusively used for this purpose and not for personal or other loan waivers.

The Chief Minister warned that any misuse of these funds would result in government action, similar to past instances. He also announced that loan waiver funds up to Rs 1 lakh would be deposited into farmers' accounts by 4 pm on July 18.
