4th class girl student complains to Meerpet police over worms in rice
A fourth class student of a Telangana Government Primary School in Meerpet lodged a complaint for serving rice infested with worms in mid-day meal
MEERPET (Ranga Reddy): A fourth class student of a Telangana Government Primary School in Meerpet grabbed everyone's attention when she went to the local police station and lodged a complaint against her teachers for serving rice infested with worms in mid-day meal.
The school is located in Meerpet Municipal Corporation limits in Ranga Reddy district. The young girl, named Pujitha, left the police personnel startled when she descended on the Meerpet police station. She told the cops that the students were being served rice with worms all the time and despite repeated complaints, the teachers and principal incharge of the mid-day meal scheme were reluctant to take remedial measures.
On top of it, the teachers allegedly threatened to throw her out of the school by releasing her Transfer Certificate (TC) for raising the complaint. Meerpet Inspector Mahender Reddy, who lent a patient hearing to the girl's grievance, later sent his team to the school to conduct an inquiry and find out the truth in the complaint. The policemen were stunned to see the appalling conditions prevailing there even as they stumbled on old, rotten vegetables, outdated oil with bad odour and rice infested with worms. They have collected samples of the stuff for the purpose of sending them for a lab test.
The fourth class girl student however is earning appreciation from all corners for mustering courage to complain against her teachers and raising voice against irregularities in implementing the mid-day meal scheme.
