Fire breaks out again in Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Telangana

AMRABAD: Fire broke out again, for the second time in three days, in the Jilugayakunta forest area of Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Nagar Kurnool district on Thursday. The leaping flames spread across about 100 hectares of the forest area. On Tuesday, fire erupted in the same area.

However, Mannanur and Amrabad forest department officials, who received the information through satellite phones, deployed the fire brigade personnel to carry out rescue operations. According to the officials, the fire brigade personnel plunged into action and battled hard to isolate the blaze in an effort to prevent its further spread.

The Erlapadelu, Lambadoni Utar, Shuddha Bokkalu and Jilugayakunta areas of the Amrabad Tiger Reserve Forest Area (ATR) suffered extensive damage during the first instance of fire on Tuesday afternoon. It took 12 hours for the fire department personnel and the forest officials to put out the fire then.

The forest officials informed the media that a six-kilometre stretch of the forest area was burnt. They said that it was the first time such a massive fire accident occurred in the Amrabad forest area since 2018.
