Incessant rains bring copious inflows into major projects of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

This will also bring cheer to the sister Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh where heavy inflows have been projected into projects downstream.

HYDERABAD: A record average seasonal rainfall of 21 mm has been recorded all over Telangana on Tuesday. With a maximum rainfall of 98.4 mm in Mulugu district, the downpour has revived prospects of a bumper Vanakalam crop by filling up major projects under the command area of Godavari and Krishna Rivers in the State. This would also bring cheer to the sister Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh where heavy inflows have been projected into projects downstream.

With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad centre forecasting heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Komarambheem Asifabad, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy districts of Telangana till Thursday, the catchment areas in these districts are expected to deposit more water into the reservoirs.

For the first time in the season, Priyadarshini Jurala Project on River Krishna received inflows of 706 cusecs and the project, with a capacity of 5.729 TMC, was holding 2.022 TMC of water on Wednesday morning. At Srisailam, the inflows were 321 cusecs and the reservoir level was reported at 808.69 feet. The inflows at Nagarjunasagar were 3,507 cusecs.

On the other hand, inflows into Lakshmi Barrage of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project was 2.05 lakh cusecs with upper catchment areas in Maharashtra receiving heavy rainfall bringing huge quantities of water into Godavari and its tributaries. The water level at Bhadrachalam stood at 28.10 ft and the discharge was 3,77,859 cusecs on Wednesday. Inflows to Mid Manair were reported at 4,590 cusecs, Lower Manair at 1,522 cusecs, Kaddem at 768 and Yellampally at 6,167 cusecs. At Polavaram, Godavari was reported to be in spate and 1,10,130 cusecs of water was released down the spillway where 48 gates were lifted.
