HYDERABAD: Residents of Hi-Rise PVR Meadows at Mallampet under Dundigal municipal limits of Medchal district have protested against the encroachment of two water bodies adjacent to their colony, leading to submergence of their homes.
The residents told media on Wednesday that Kotha Kunta and Chenna Kunta lakes were encroached upon by illegal constructions. “The lake which was 10 acres in size a decade ago is now shrunk to three acres. The residents of houses built on the lake bed divert rainwater towards our colony, inundating our houses,” they said.
They said that their colony was built as per norms and they never faced problems till the lake was intact and free from encroachments. The residents said that they approached the court which ordered demolition of illegal structures in the lake bed that obstructed the free flow of water in the vicinity of the colony.
However, many more illegal structures came up much to the surprise of the PVR Villa residents. Now whenever there was rain the drain water of the encroached areas mixed with flood water entered the colony and flowed into the fresh water sumps and parking areas damaging vehicles and the electrical installations. They demanded the municipal authorities remove encroachments and restore the normal flow of drainage water in the area, saving the colony.
