NOIDA: Supertech twin towers, pronounced illegal, were brought down in just 9 seconds in a controlled demolition here exactly at 2:30 pm on Sunday, thus ending a nine-year-long fight over it. The demolition, carried out using waterfall implosion technique, soon emerged the most trending event on social media.

Residents of two adjoining housing societies, namely Emerald Court and ATS Village in Sector 93A, were evacuated by 8 am before the authorities embarked on its demolition.

People gathered around the place and took all the vantage points to catch a glimpse of the breathtaking aftermath of the edifices' collapse. Residents in nearby high-rise apartments also captured it on their smartphones and posted them on social media platforms.

The authorities indeed had to put together a mega exercise to carry out the controlled implosion. Over 3,700 kg of explosives were loaded into both the towers while a 500-square metre area surrounding them was declared as an exclusion zone. It was made off limits for humans, animals and vehicles to ensure utmost safety.

The implosion of the twin towers presented contrasting moods, one among the onlookers who thronged the place in droves, and the other on Twitter. People who took every vantage point including the nearby flyovers were able to take stunning pictures and videos of the towers' demise.

If only they were humans, the world would have written the obituary in the name of 'mercy killing' for the 'conjoined twins'.

Some netizens were at their creative best in seeing the poignant side of this sudden death, with a human touch.

One such, Aprajit Kishor, tweeted: "Both the towers of the Noida Supertech Twin Towers are looking at each other for the last time before being demolished today. And they say buildings don't have emotions".
