VEMULAWADA: A registered medical practitioner (RMP) hailing from Kolkata in West Bengal did a vanishing act after allegedly duping gullible people of Rs 1.5 crore in Vemulawada of Rajanna Siricilla district. He collected the money from the victims in the form of loans under the pretext of buying a house.

According to the victims, Sigdar Raju, a quack from Kolkata migrated to Vemulawada 20 years ago and started a clinic at Munnuru Kapu Nityannadana Satram. He was providing medical services to people for a quite long time and in the process developed a close rapport with the people.

In what appears to be a premeditated conspiracy to cheat people, he borrowed a total of Rs 1.5 crore from 12 people saying that he wanted to purchase a house. The people, out of faith in the RMP, lent the money a few days back. However, as some of them went to Sigdar Raju to seek repayment, the RMP made a false promise of returning their money after selling his wife's properties in Kolkata.

He convinced them that his wife would go to Kolkata and bring the money. However, to everyone’s shock, the entire family along with the quack, vanished from the town leaving the victims in the lurch. Realising that they were cheated, the victims approached the police for help.
