Vamsadhara overflows, causes floods in Srikakulam district
Due to heavy rains in Orissa, the flood water in the Vamsadhara river surged resulting in flooding of a few villages in Srikakulam
SRIKAKULAM: Due to heavy rains in the upper reaches of Odisha, the flood water in the Vamsadhara river surged resulting in a heavy inflow of 50,000 cusecs to Gotta Barrage in Srikakulam district. This prompted the officials of the project to issue a first danger warning and set up the control room at the district collector's office to monitor the situation round-the-clock.
Srikakulam District Collector Srikesh Lathkar has directed the officials and the people of the low-lying villages in the catchment areas of the Vamsdhara river in the district to be alert and take abundant precautions to avert loss of life or to property.
The officials predict that the water level in the Vamsadhara river is likely to rise further due to the heavy flow of water from Kashinagar in the Gajapati district of Odisha and ordered the Tehsildars of Kothur, Bhamini, Hiramandalam, L.N. Peta, Sarubujjili, Polaki, Amadalavalasa, Jalumuru and Narasannapet mandals to be at their highest guard.
