Youth dies by suicide allegedly after pollice assault in Prakasam district

HYDERABAD: A young man from Prakasam district allegedly died by suicide after reportedly being assaulted by the police during an investigation. The incident occurred in Ponnur Mandal on Sunday, where the deceased, identified as Raja, consumed pesticide, leading to his death.

Raja, a resident of Parchur village, was employed at a prawn hatchery in the area. He had been accused of stealing money from the facility by the hatchery owner. Following the complaint, the police arrested Raja and brought him to the station for questioning. During this period, Raja claimed that he was physically assaulted by the officers, which, according to initial reports, led to significant distress.

Family members of Raja alleged that the police assault was directly responsible for his decision to end his life. They held a protest demanding strict action against the officers involved.
