MAHABUBNAGAR: A farmer from Mahbubnagar district in Telangana passed away recently, with his family alleging that stress related to an unresolved loan waiver was the cause of his death.

The incident occurred in Urranchutanda village, located in the Nawabpet Mandal of Mahbubnagar district. The deceased farmer, identified as Somla, was 59 years old.

According to the farmer's family, Somla had taken a loan from a bank before December 9, 2023. Over time, with interest, the amount had grown to Rs 87,300. Despite meeting the criteria for loan waiver under the scheme promised by the government, Somla's loan was not forgiven. His family mentioned that Somla was constantly worried about the loan not being waived, which put him under severe mental stress. On the day of the incident, he suffered a heart attack and passed away.
