HYDERABAD: The students at Gitam University protested on Thursday as students with less than 65 percent attendance were not permitted to take the exams. Students staged a sit-in and dharna in front of the university gate in Patancheruvu area.

According to reports, the students demanded that the principal of Gitam University come out and give them a firm guarantee. The Patancheruvu police arrived at Gitam University and attempted to control the crowd.

Several students expressed concern that the future of nearly 3,000 students with less than 65 percent attendance would be bleak. The students questioned whether it was reasonable to allow them to write the exams next year rather than this year, despite paying Rs 7,500 per subject.

The students have decided to keep agitating until they receive a firm assurance. University sources, on the other hand, claim that they only make decisions in accordance with UGC guidelines and do not make their own.
