HYDERABAD: The idea of Telangana government to create better medical and health infrastructure for the people of Telangana saw a massive push in the year 2022. Chief Minister KCR’s brainchild scheme, a hospital and a medical college per district witnessed its best phase yet this year.

To begin with, the government handed over the Health Ministry to arguably the best minister, T. Harish Rao in November 2021. He steered the department and its infrastructure to its peak.

A PHC( Primary Healthcare Centre) Monitoring Unit was set up in Koti to monitor all PHCs across the state.

Apart from this, numerous PHCs in the state were upgraded to Area Hospitals.

Inauguration of new hospitals

In a significant move, 50-bedded MCHs (Mother and Child care hospitals) were inaugurated in Mulugu, Medchal, Kodangal and Manthani and 100 bedded MCHs were inaugurated in Bheemgal, Medak, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Kothagudem and Wanaparthy.

A 260-bedded MCH was opened in Jagitial. A 30-bedded Child Health Care Hospitals were inaugurated in Balanagar, Koilakonda and a 20-bedded SNCU( Special NewBorn Care Unit) was inaugurated in Wanaparthy.

A new area hospitals were inaugurated in Vanasthalipuram and Bhupalapally.

A paediatric ICU with 50 beds was opened at Warangal. Adilabad RIMS (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences) became a super specialty hospital with 210 beds and 41 ICUs.

A nursing college also became operational in Banswada.

Foundation for future

Chief Minister KCR laid foundation stone for three super speciality hospitals(TIMS) in three key areas of the city i.e. Medchal, Saroornagar and Sanathnagar. A total of Rs.2,679 crore was sanctioned for the same. This was done to reduce the burden on the existing super speciality hospitals in Hyderabad.

The construction of the super speciaity hospital at Warangal picked up pace.

Foundation stones were laid for hospitals in Mahbubnagar, Husnabad, Manthani, Mahbubabad, Parkal, Nirmal and Sathupally. These hospitals will serve the population of their respective districts.

Medical education

The state government took up the task of setting up one medical college per district and linking a 300-bedded hospital to each of them. The Centre sanctioned amounts to set up 159 colleges across the country but did not sanction even one of them to Telangana.

Despite such discrimination, the state started 8 new medical colleges this year on November 15, taking the total number of government medical colleges in the state to 12. These 8 were set up in Kothagudem, Ramagundam, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jagityal, Mancherial, Mahabubabad and Sangareddy.

With hopes for the future and Covid still lingering around, the Medical departments infrastructure upgrade is a relief to the population of Telangana.
