HYDERABAD: In preparation for the upcoming Ganesh festival, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up 73 ponds across the city to facilitate the immersion of idols. These include 27 baby ponds, 24 portable ponds, and 22 excavated ponds designed explicitly for smaller idols ranging from 2 to 5 feet tall.

GHMC has also distributed 3.1 lakh clay idols to promote eco-friendly celebrations to the public. In addition, they have undertaken several initiatives, such as trimming tree branches and filling road potholes along the procession routes to ensure a smooth journey for the immersion. Streetlights have been arranged in all lanes, and sanitation will be strictly maintained, with teams deployed every kilometre to clear waste during the celebrations.

GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata has directed officials to ensure all amenities are available at the immersion sites, including streetlights, drinking water, mobile toilets, and cranes. Immediate removal of immersed idols and puja materials will also be ensured. Special attention will be given to mosquito control and cleanliness at the mandap locations.
