HYDERABAD: Samajwadi Party Chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav underscored the need for unity among the opposition parties to dethrone the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power at the Centre. Akhilesh Yadav called on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) at Pragathi Bhavan here on Monday.

The meeting between the two party leaders grabbed the attention in political circles following the meeting of opposition parties held at Patna and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. On the other hand, the meeting also became crucial at a time when a series of remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that BRS meant “Bharat Rishthedaar Samiti” and were the B team of the BJP at the ‘Telangana Jana Garjana’ public meeting in Khammam on Sunday.

Akhilesh Yadav said there was an urgent need to unite the opposition parties and deliberations in this regard were discussed with KCR on the effective role to be played by the opposition in dethroning the BJP from power.

Meanwhile, opposition parties in the country are uniting under the leadership of the Congress Party. Akhilesh Yadav also took part in the opposition meeting held recently in Patna. The BRS also made it clear that it was not part of any alliance and maintained an equal distance with the BJP and the Congress. The BRS's ambition is that both parties have pushed the country backwards in terms of development and to find an alternative to them.

Earlier, Ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Vemula Prasanth Reddy and MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy accorded a warm welcome to Akhilesh Yadav at Begumpet Airport.
