NIZAMABAD: The Nizamabad Police on Wednesday arrested an infant trafficking gang and sent them to judicial remand.

Nizamabad Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kiran Kumar said that a group of women in Ambedkar Colony initially gathered details of couples who did not have children in the area. "They then approached those couples and assured them that they had infants and extorted lakhs of rupees from them. Upon obtaining information about the gang, Three Town police started a surveillance and arrested the gang," he said.

The modus operandi of the gang was to extort lakhs of rupees from couples not having children. The gang planned to give the same infant to different couples and dupe them for money. A group of victims approached the police and complained about the gang. Four women involved in the gang were arrested and an ASHA worker was identified as the kingpin of the gang, Kiran Kumar said.
