HYDERABAD: Telangana IT and Industries Minister Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) said that the State Government would solve all the demands of the students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), popularly known as IIIT Basar. He however urged the students to treat the campus as their home and contribute to the maintenance of the place.

Students of IIIT-Basar staged a protest in June 2022 and demanded that the infrastructure of the campus be improved and a dedicated Vice-Chancellor be appointed. They also demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) visit the campus. Telangana Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy then visited the students and assured them that their demands would be met. Prof. V Venkata Ramana was immediately appointed as permanent VC. The Government also sanctioned funds for infrastructure development on the campus.

While announcing that a sports stadium, a startup incubator, good quality canteen, 50 smart classrooms and other infrastructure would be set up on a priority basis, the IT Minister also revealed that he would distribute laptops to the students after two months. He announced that Rs 3 crores would be sanctioned immediately for the sports stadium.

KTR encouraged the students to be job-creators rather than job-seekers and said that a startup incubator, with facilities like in Hyderabad's T-Hub 2.0, would help them in doing so.

Apart from reassuring the students, he said that the University was their home and urged the students to maintain it. He said that students should offer their services for development with the same vigour with which they had protested.
