Avula Subba Rao arrested in connection with 'Agnipath' riots

HYDERABAD: Avula Subbarao, who is suspected to be the mastermind behind the Secunderabad railway station vandalism, was arrested by the Guntur police in Narasaraopet and was handed over to the Telangana police.

Director of Sai Defence Academy Subba Rao, the key accused in the case, reportedly confessed to the crime during the investigation. The police said he and his followers plotted the destruction and conceded that the students were provoked along with four followers named Shiva, Malla Reddy, Reddappa, and Hari.

It is learned that Subba Rao's followers have raised concerns among the students in several WhatsApp groups. The police found that it was a planned protest which started in Guntur. The protestors were provided with food during the rally.

On June 16, Subba Rao reached Secunderabad where he met his followers and a plan was hatched to vandalize the Secunderabad station. Candidates are known to have wreaked havoc at the railway station on June 17. It is suspected that Subba Rao had set up various WhatsApp groups and called upon the candidates to take up the agitation against the Agnipath scheme.
