HYDERABAD: IT Minister K T Rama Rao has said that Hyderabad has created more than 1.50 lakh jobs in the financial year that just concluded. As much as 33% of the net new jobs in India are generated in Hyderabad. IT employment has reached eight lakhs.

The world's top five IT companies have set up their second largest campuses in Hyderabad.

KTR participated in NASSCOM 12th edition Global Capability Centers (GCC) Conclave at HICC in Hyderabad on Thursday. The conclave is going hybrid for the first time and is a special edition as it is one of the first hybrid events for NASSCOM. This year's theme 'Leaning in for impact in the Networked World' celebrates the rise of GCCs in India as the leader among the capability centres' landscape.

Speaking on this occasion, KTR said that Hyderabad was home to Thub - India's largest innovation engine. "We have several innovation engines in the state including WeHub, TWorks, TSIC, RICH, etc. The world's leading IT and finance companies have set up their organizations in Hyderabad," the minister said.

Hyderabad's IT Growth Story

• Uber started with an initial employee estimate of 500 in three years and they have crossed 2,000 in half the time and are still expanding.

• ZF, a German multinational company in the Mobility space, was inaugurated in 2017 (5 years ago) with a target employee count of 1,000 in 5 years. Today, after 5 years, we recently launched their new office in Nanakgramguda, and their headcount has crossed 3,000 and is still expanding.

• DBS that set up a GCC in 2016 with a projected headcount of 1,000 in five years, have crossed 3,000 and they have even opened up a retail presence here in Hyderabad.

• Micron, which set up their Engineering/ R&D presence 5 years ago, has its largest presence globally after their HQ, here in Hyderabad.

Why Hyderabad for GCCs

The liveability and infrastructure compared to other cities is unparalleled, the roads are constructed in such a way that one can reach IT destination from any prominent location in the city in less than an hour. The city has been adjudged as the most liveable city in India for six years in a row by Mercer agency. The city has the best business schools, 150+ engineering colleges. The government came up with a unique program called Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) that focuses on building talent.

When we talk about Safety Hyderabad has taken care of it all, a very unique - Cyberabad Security Council - an arrangement between the Police Department and the IT Industry that ensures elements such as Security, Women Safety, Traffic regulation, and Cyber Security in the IT corridors.
