HYDERABAD: BRS cadre will protest at all Assembly constituency headquarter towns on Saturday, March 16, against the arrest of BRS MLC K Kavitha.

The arrest is a conspiracy by the BJP and the Congress, said former minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan after the arrest of BRS leader Kavitha Kalvakuntla, Harish Rao condemned the arrest of Kavitha and termed it a political conspiracy. He said that the BRS, which is known for its Telangana movement and protests, was not afraid of the arrest and would take political and legal action against it.

Harish Rao charged the Congress and the BJP being in cahoots with each other and the arrest was timed in collusion with each other. He accused the BJP of deliberately planning the arrest for Friday night as there was no opportunity to present the case before the magistrate.

Harish Rao alleged that the arrest was done in the evening hours, after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) vowed to the Supreme Court of India that it would not take any coercive action against her, while her petition was scheduled for March 19, 2024.

This was an attempt to demoralise the BRS and KCR especially when the Election Commission was going to announce the polls schedule on March 16.

Former Minister G Jagadish Reddy said that the arrest was illegal as he law clearly exempted women from arrest under the PMLA.
