BRS government developed world-class educational facilities in Telangana: KTR

HYDERABAD: Telangana is setting a new benchmark in terms of education quality and infrastructure, whether it is school education, higher education, technical education, or medical education, said BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday.

According to KTR, the State had added an unprecedented number of residential educational institutions and higher education colleges in the last nine and a half years. He said that the BRS government had spent a significant amount of money to improve educational standards and service quality in state-run educational institutions.

Highlighting that the BRS Government under the leadership of Chief Minister KCR empowered Telangana with the highest number of Gurukuls in India, KTR said that the State has the highest number of residential educational institutions in the country. “The total figure of BC, SC, ST, and Minority Gurukuls put together is at 1000+. This includes residential schools, junior colleges, and degree colleges,” he said.

The BRS working president said that every year, Rs. 1.25 lakhs was spent on each student in these Gurukuls to impart quality education, to provide nutritious food, accommodation, and other facilities.

KTR said that the underprivileged students who attended these institutions received excellent grades in many competitive exams and were granted admission into premier institutes such as IITs, IIMs, prestigious Indian universities, and foreign universities.

“This social welfare residential education setup is a boon to the marginalized sections and seats in these institutions are the most sought after,” he added.

KTR said that the ‘Mana Ooru - Mana Badi’ program had empowered Telangana and reshaped the Govt. schools. He said that the program helped in comprehensive development and strengthened Infrastructure facilities in the Government schools. “A total of 26,065 schools are being developed in three phases with a total budget outlay of Rs. 7,289 crores,” KTR added.

KTR said that this program has given a major facelift to the government schools with an overhaul of all the essential facilities.

KTR said that Telangana's gross enrollment ratio in government degree colleges is 36.2, which was higher than the national average. He said that course restructuring increased admissions to government degree colleges by 68 percent.

KTR mentioned a list of new higher education colleges established after 2014, which included: Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University, Forest College and Research Institute (to be upgraded to India's first and world's third Forest University), funds allocated for construction of new buildings for 34 Government degree colleges, Seven model degree colleges in educationally backward districts, New government polytechnic colleges, agriculture colleges, nursing colleges, degree colleges, junior colleges, JNTU colleges at Sircilla and Wanaparthy, JNTUH University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Sultanpur, Sangareddy District, sanctioned two Government Junior Colleges in Manuguru and Maheshwaram.

KTR highlighted that 21 new government medical colleges were established after 2014 and 8 more were sanctioned.

KTR said that the BRS government had also started many study circles, libraries, established Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK), and opened skill development centres across the state.
