HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders and activists took to streets across the State on Wednesday in protest to TPCC Chief Revanth Reddy's remarks on limiting power supply to farmers in the State.

The party workers across the State burnt the effigies of the Congress for opposing Telangana's 24-hour uninterrupted electricity supply to farmers.

BRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla, who participated in the state-wide protests, asked Rahul Gandhi what’s the problem of the Congress in giving farmers free 24-hour electricity.

"Do you want to trouble the farmers of Telangana because you are unable to provide 24 hours free electricity to farmers in Congress-ruled states. The BRS party will uphold farmers' interests and will stand with every farmer no matter what, " she said.

BRS members, led by Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, gathered in large numbers at Vidyut Soudha in Khairatabad, Hyderabad, with posters with slogans such as "Khabardar Revanth Reddy, Congress party down down."

The BRS cadre, along with hundreds of farmers, protested at Telangana Square in Mahbubnagar, led by State Excise, and Tourism Minister V. Srinivas Goud. They raised slogans opposing the Congress party's anti-farmer policies.

Farmers in the state, according to V Srinivas Goud, were honoured under the leadership of Telangana Chief Minister KCR. Protestors lit fire to Revanth Reddy's effigy. Women farmers expressed their anger by stamping Revanth Reddy's effigy with their feet in protest to Revanth Reddy's claims about free power to the farmers.

Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy led a protest on the Mumbai-Hyderabad highway at Isnapur along with BRS leaders and cadres. The MLA said that Revanth Reddy had hinted that the Congress party would discontinue most of the welfare schemes launched by Chief Minister KCR, who had uplifted the lives of the poor by introducing many welfare schemes.

The Congress would push farmers into misery again if it was voted to power, he said.

Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) KT Rama Rao on Tuesday called for protests across the state in response to TPCC president Revanth Reddy's alleged remarks over 24x7 free electricity for the farmers in the state.

Farmers were outraged over TPCC leader Revanth Reddy's remarks, said Forest, Environment, Justice, and Debt Department Indrakaran Reddy, who also participated in the BRS protests in Nirmal. While expressing solidarity with the farmers, he said that BRS strongly opposes Revanth Reddy's remarks on free electricity for farmers. He said that Chandrababu Naidu spoke against farmers protesting against the TDP government's anti-farmer policies at Basheerbagh and killed three of them, and now his disciple Revanth Reddy is talking about anti-farmer policies.
