BRS team meets ECI officials, seeks assent for party's new name
A delegation of the re-christened Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly TRS
NEW DELHI: A delegation of the re-christened Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly TRS, on Thursday met the authorities of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and submitted the resolution renaming their party. They requested the ECI to give its assent to the rechristening of their party as BRS.
Telangana Chief Minister and party patriarch K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), after an extended general body of the TRS in Hyderabad on Wednesday, announced that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi would henceforth be called as Bharat Rashtra Samithi. He read out the official communication to the ECI about the party's resolution renaming the party. The resolution was unanimously ratified by the 283 executive members at the meeting held at the Telangana Bhavan.
While KCR and his party took the monumental decision to metamorphose the TRS into a national party with a new name, it needs to get the consent of the ECI. Once this official formality is completed, the TRS will cease to exist and will henceforth be recognised as BRS.
The delegation that met the ECI authorities was led by party senior leader and former MP B Vinod Kumar.
