BRS to play role of constructive opposition, to ensure Congress fulfills its promises: KTR

HYDERABAD: BRS working president KT Rama Rao while conceding defeat said that he was disappointed but not sad about the defeat of the party in the hands of the Congress.

Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, he said that the BRS would play the role of a constructive opposition protecting the interests of the people of Telangana.

Thanking the 60 lakh strong party workers who toiled day and night for the victory of the BRS candidates, KTR advised them not to get disheartened. “Like KCR said, equanimity is extremely important in politics we must not get perturbed. We thought of getting a better majority but the result was different. People gave us 39-40 positions and asked us to play an opposition role. We will take up our job seriously, just like we ran the Government for 10 years,” KTR observed.

Recalling how the State of Telangana was achieved after a prolonged agitation, KTR said that one must learn lessons from defeat. “We have enjoyed power for ten years. Now in opposition, we must ensure that the ruling party will fulfill its promises. But we will let the Government settle first, there is no hurry,” the BRS working president said.

Assuring the BRS cadre that the party would bounce back like a ball, said that the party would work twice as hard. He stressed that there would be introspection on the defeat as the voters had left varying impressions over the performance of the BRS candidates.

“It is not a wave in favour of the Congress, there were islands of success, we have to sit and understand the defeat. We did well in Hyderabad, Medak, and parts of Karimnagar and we have representation from almost all the districts in the Assembly now. In ten places like Devarakadra and Tandur, we lost by a slender margin. Cabinet ministers also lost. However, this is a speed breaker only,” KTR said analysing the defeat.

Refusing to blame the people of Telangana for the defeat, KTR said that they gave the BRS a chance to rule for ten years. “We can't blame them immediately after we lost, we have to respect their mandate. Now I also will have time to talk to you after understanding the reasons. We will come back strong,” KTR said.

KTR thanked the Government employees who had worked in tandem with the Government, he said that several of them sent messages feeling bad about the defeat of the BRS
