KHAMMAM: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has said, “The BRS Government’s vision and MLA Puvvada Ajay’s mission helped in rapid development of erstwhile Khammam district.”

Addressing the ‘Praja Ashirvad Sabha’ in Khammam on Sunday, KCR said that the city, which lacked basic facilities in the past, emerged as a role model for the entire State.

"People never dreamt of an IT tower in the city. The BRS Government had sanctioned Rs 700 crore for the development of various infrastructure projects including construction of Vaikunta Damams, integrated markets, six-lane roads, greenery, lighting and renovation of Lakkaram tank with Rs 100 crore," he said.

KCR quoted the poem ‘Na Thalli Telangana Ra Velaleni Nandanaudhyanam Ra’ written by poet Ravella Venkata Rama Rao and said that he was proud of the holistic development in Khammam.

“Earlier during my padayatra, I observed the Gollapadu which was untidy with slums. The BRS Government has rehabilitated the people of Gollapadu Katta to Velugumatla and renovated the Gollapadu channel,” he said.

He added that the road network in Khammam was enhanced from 400 to 1,100 km and drain length enhanced to 1,592 km from 205 km. Highlighting the welfare done by the BRS Government, KCR said that be it beautification on both sides of Munneru, Dhamsalapuram Bridge, Government medical college or hi-tech bus station in Khammam, all the infrastructure projects were completed during this Government's rule.

Referring to the drinking water problem in the city, he said that despite the Paleru reservoir being nearby, people faced a tough time due to the supply of water only once a week. "The BRS Government gave 75,000 drinking water tap connections to Khammam and addressed the drinking water needs of the people," he added.

Taking a jibe at former Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy who shifted their loyalties from the BRS to the Congress, KCR said that Tummala became a Minister because of the BRS. He alleged that some of the leaders who were changing political parties frequently for their own benefit were offering money to purchase voters.

"People should be cautious about such leaders and re-elect Puvvada Ajay, who pressurised the Government for a medical college in Khammam, despite the fact that he was running a medical college, which is a testament of Ajay’s commitment towards the development of the constituency," KCR said.
