KODAD: The Congress party which promised free power to farmers in Karnataka is giving only five hours of power, whereas Telangana has been implementing round-the-clock power for a long time, said Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) addressing ‘Praja Ashirvad Sabha’ in Kodad on Sunday.

Recalling TPCC president Revanth Reddy’s statement that three hours of power would be sufficient for the farm sector and Uttam Kumar Reddy’s statement that KCR was wasting power, the BRS Chief said that the voters of Kodad must decide to whom they should vote.

“Yesterday the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka came to Tandur, he shamelessly declared that the Congress Government in Karnataka is supplying five hours of power. Isn't it a disgrace to make such an announcement in a state where there is a 24-hour power supply already in place,” KCR said.

KCR warned people that they would face the same fate if they believed the false promises and voted for them. Consider the history of the political party and what they would do for you, KCR advised the people. “Please think before you vote, because your vote determines the future of Telangana. Vote is a powerful weapon,” KCR said.

Remembering the water wars that the erstwhile Nalgonda district faced KCR said that in 2003 he led a huge protest march to Nagarjuansagar demanding the release of water for Kodad.

“After that, the Government relented and released water. The new generation doesn’t know our struggles. It was a golden Telangana that was clubbed with the Andhra region resulting in the devastation of the region. The original Nagarjuna Sagar project was supposed to come up 20 kilometers upstream at Yeleswaram. It was actually named Nandikonda project,” KCR pointed out.

He said that the distribution of Krishna water was so lopsided that farmers in the Andhra region on the right canal were given power subsidies and Telangana farmers depending on the left canal received nothing. “I fought the injustice, but none of the Congress leaders joined hands. There were many ministers but they never fought for our rights,” KCR said.

He added that many of the BRS leaders from the Nalgonda region have asked him to solve the water woes forever by linking the area with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). “I will see that the Kaleshwaram water is supplied to Asifnagar canal, via Musi, Udayasamudram, Pedadadevulapalli Chervu so that there will be no dearth of water to Kodad, Nagarjunasagar, and Huzurnagar areas and they can reap two crops every year,” the Chief Minister announced.

He pointed out that the Congress Legislature Party Leader Bhatti Vikramarka lied that no area in Kodad was supplied with Kaleshwaram water, but already several areas of Kodad including the Mote area received KLIP water, he said.

Urging the people to elect the BRS candidate and standing MLA Mallayya Yadav, KCR said that all the backward classes must unite and vote for the BRS candidate and the State Government would build a Rs 10 crore BC Bhavan in Kodad. He declared that after coming to power for the third time, he would initiate steps to link Machilipatnam port to the dry port to be built between Suryapet-Kodad.
