Congress tops in high asset candidates category, 80 percent have criminal record

A sneak peek into the profile of the winning candidates in the recently concluded Assembly elections reveals that Congress tops the list of rich candidates as well as candidates with the lowest assets.

HYDERABAD:A sneak peek into the profile of the winning candidates in the recently concluded Assembly elections reveals that Congress tops the list of rich candidates as well as candidates with the lowest assets.

Top on the list of the ultrarich winning candidates is Chennur (SC) Gaddam Vivekanand of the Congress with Rs 606 crore, followed by Munugode candidate of the Congress, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy with Rs 458 crore and Palair Congress candidate Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, with Rs 433 crore.

Surprisingly, two of the rich Congress winners also declared that they have the highest liabilities of more than one crore. While Gaddam Vivekananda has cumulative liabilities of Rs 41 crore, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has Rs 433 crore and Danam Nagender of the BRS has liabilities of Rs 49 crore.

While Vedma Bojju of Congress who won, from the Khanapur (ST) constituency has the lowest assets, worth Rs 24 lakh, Balanayak Nenavath (Congress) of Devarakonda (ST) constituency has assets worth Rs 28 lakh, and Jare Adinarayana of Aswaraopet (ST) also of the Congress has assets worth Rs 56 lakhs.

Based on the ITRs filed during the financial year of 2022-23, the top three high-income candidates are as follows: Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy (Congress) with Rs 71 crore, Gaddam Vivekananda (Congress) with Rs 15 crore and KT Rama Rao (BRS) with Rs 12 crore.

In all, 51 candidates (80 percent) out of 64 winning candidates with a criminal record are from the Congress, 19 candidates (49 percent) out of 39 winning candidates are from the BRS, seven (88 percent) out of 8 winning candidates are from the BJP, one (100 percent) winner from the CPI and four winners (57 percent) out of the seven are from the AIMIM.
