HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer CV Anand assumed office as the 61st Police Commissioner of Hyderabad. He took charge of the outgoing Commissioner, Srinivas Reddy, on Monday morning at the CP office. This marks Anand’s second term as the city's police chief.

Speaking to the media after assuming office, Anand expressed happiness over returning as the Hyderabad Police Commissioner. He emphasised the state's serious approach to curbing drugs and ganja and vowed to intensify efforts in their eradication. He also promised to improve law and order in the city. He highlighted the importance of friendly policing and assured the public that while police would be approachable, they would take strict action against criminals.

He pointed out that ensuring a peaceful Ganesh immersion was a priority and said necessary measures would be taken. Anand also acknowledged the city's growing traffic issues and committed to resolving them. He reiterated that crimes such as murders and rapes would be handled with strict enforcement.

Anand’s appointment makes him the fourth Kotwal to serve twice in the position within the same period. He was first appointed as Hyderabad Police Commissioner in December 2021 and served until October 2022, after which he was transferred following Election Commission orders. Now, he returns to the post following the transfer of Srinivas Reddy on 7th September.

CV Anand is the first DGP-level officer to be appointed as the city's Commissioner in 21 years. Since the time of Hyderabad's first Commissioner, Hasan Ali Khan, 60 officers have held this post, and Anand is the 61st. Notably, only seven officers, including Anand, have had the rare opportunity to serve as Commissioner twice.
