Death threat: Case registered against Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in Nalgonda
The case was registered at the One Town Police Station, based on a complaint lodged by Suhas, son of another Congressman Cheruku Sudhakar
NALGONDA: More trouble stares in the face for senior Congress leader Komatireddy Venakat Reddy as the Telangana police registered a case against him for his alleged threatening call to Suhan, the son of another Congressman Cheruku Sudhakar.
The case was registered at the One Town Police Station, based on a complaint lodged by Suhas, the victim, on Monday. The son of Cheruku Sudhakar, who is never known to see the Komatireddy brothers eye-to-eye, met the Nalgonda Superintendent of Police and requested that the Bhongir MP be arrested for issuing a death threat to him and his father. Venkat Reddy was charged under Section 506 of the IPC for issuing criminal threats.
The police case is a fallout of a viral audio clip of a recent phone call between Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Suhas. In the conversation, the MP was heard issuing a death threat to the victim during a heated argument between them. With the audio clip going viral on social media, the senior Congress leader from Nalgonda found himself on a sticky wicket as calls grew, within his party and outside, for stern action against him.
Sensing the mood, the MP himself made a vain attempt on Monday at damage-control. While acknowledging that it was his voice, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said that he did not mean any ill-will and that he made those comments in an emotional outburst. He sought to clarify that he called up Suhas only to advise him to stop criticising him for no rhyme or reason.
But the veteran leader’s attempt at clearing the air failed to cut much ice due to the gravity of his rants. Those opposing Venkat Reddy in the party have already reportedly complained to AICC incharge of Telangana affairs Manikrao Thakare. They maintain that issuing death threats to a fellow leader of the party could not be condoned and severe punitive measures should be initiated against the Bhongir MP, who is already feeling suffocated in the party following the exit of his brother Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy a few months ago.
