Dental student’s burnt body found in Khammam hostel room, suicide suspected

KHAMMAM: A 22-year-old, fourth-year BDS student allegedly died by suicide by setting herself on fire at a private hostel in Khammam late Sunday night. The police found her burnt body inside her hostel room.

According to the police, Samudrala Manasa, a native of Pochamma Maidan of Warangal, was studying at the Mamata Medical College. She used to live in a private accommodation opposite the medical college.

On Sunday night, hostel mates noticed smoke billowing from her room and alerted the hostel staff. The staff rushed to her room on the top floor and broke the door open. Inside, they found the charred body of Manasa.

The police reached the spot and shifted her to the Khammam government hospital where she was declared brought dead. The police informed Manasa’s family about her death and handed over the dead body to them after the completion of the post-mortem examination.

According to the police, Manasa, who had lost her mother years ago, also lost her father recently and was unable to recover from grief. Confirming the suicide angle, the police also found CCTV footage of Manasa at a fuel filling station, carrying a bag and trying to purchase petrol. The police believe that she poured the petrol and lit herself. They however said that they would be investigating the case from all possible angles including her state of mind and her performance in third year BDS course.
