HYDERABAD: Residents of Siddayipalli in Bhutpur Municipality, Mahbubnagar, who were allotted double bedroom houses, have been hit with unexpectedly high electricity bills, causing widespread concern. Over 70 beneficiaries have received bills exceeding Rs 10,000, with some surpassing Rs 20,000.

The issue arose after the electricity department installed meters based on ownership verification certificates when the beneficiaries were allotted the homes. However, officials delayed issuing bills for more than a year. Recently, outstanding bills were sent to the residents, some of whom had not received bills for up to a year and a half.

Many beneficiaries were shocked by the sudden large amounts, with one-time bills in the thousands of rupees. Local residents expressed anger, questioning why the department had delayed issuing bills for so long, leading to such a financial burden all at once.
