Downpour warning for Hyderabad on Thursday night; thunderstorms across Telangana for 5 days

HYDERABAD: The Vigilance and Disaster Management wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has warned the citizens not to venture out on Thursday evening, with the weather department forecasting heavy downpour.

In a similar forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department Hyderabad centre also warned thunderstorms accompanied by bolts of lightning in isolated places of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancheriyal, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal, Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.

Starting from Thursday, cloudy weather with intermittent rains of varying intensity will prevail in Hyderabad for five days. The Telangana weatherman predicted quick 10-15 minute heavy rains in south Hyderabad such as Old City, Saroornagar, LB Nagar, Charminar, Falaknuma, Chandrayanagutta, Nagole, Uppal, Vanasthalipuram and Amberpet areas on Thursday. There was also a chance of rain continuing till late in the night in some places.

The IMD, in its Hyderabad-centric forecast, predicted cloudy weather for all five zones, Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad and Serilingampally till July 3, 2023.

Similarly, scattered and passing moderate rains are likely in the entire Telangana till July 2, 2023. The formation of a low-pressure trough is predicted to happen afterwards, resulting in heavy rains in parts of the State.
