HYDERABAD: In a unique protest, farmers and women from villages in Rangareddy district raised slogans against the proposed Pharma City project, singing Bathukamma songs in opposition.

The protest took place in Medipalli village of Yacharam mandal on Wednesday, where the Pharma City Struggle Committee organised the event, demanding the immediate cancellation of the project.

A large gathering of women and farmers from Medipalli, Nanaknagar, Tatiparthi, and Kurmidda villages gathered near the Pharma memorial structure. They performed Bathukamma while protesting, singing songs against the Congress government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The protestors criticised the government's handling of the project, accusing it of betraying the farmers.

Speaking at the event, social activist Kavula Saraswati demanded the project’s immediate cancellation, accusing the government of adopting a double standard by promoting Pharma City as a ‘Future City.’ The protest saw widespread participation from the local farming community, all calling for the scrapping of the Pharma City project.
