HYDERABAD: With Godavari water levels reaching 54.4 feet at Bhadrachalam on Saturday, the authorities have speeded up the shifting of people from the submergence areas to safer places.
However, the flood victims sheltered at the rehabilitation centres complained that they were starving since morning as there was no one to provide them with food. They staged a dharna in the temple town demanding food. They complained that there was no food for the past two days and the officials who shifted them were nowhere to be seen.
Meanwhile, State Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy along with Nirmal District Collector Varun Reddy visited overflowing water bodies in Sirala village of Bhainsa mandal. The Minister said that over 1,800 acres were submerged and several houses were damaged when the gushing water entered the village. He assured the villagers that the Government would undertake repairs of the bunds and also would provide essential commodities to the affected villagers.
