‘Green India Challenge’ enters Limca Book of Records; KCR presents certificate to Santosh Kumar

HYDERABAD: Green India Challenge founder Joginipalli Santosh Kumar has been named in the "Limca Book of Records", which registers the immense talent displayed by Indians worldwide.

Limca Book of Records Editor Vatsala Kaul Banerjee said that J Santosh Kumar had been selected for the prestigious award in social service for undertaking a massive plantation in just one-hour time. Banerjee said that the Limca Book of Records certificate was presented to Santosh Kumar through the hands of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) on Tuesday.

The Limca Book of Records recognises and acknowledges the achievements of Indians in the fields of education, literature, cinema, science and technology, defence, social services etc and places them in the record.


The organization said that due to the special initiative of Santosh Kumar, the Green India Challenge saw the participation of 16,900 people who planted 3,54,900 saplings in one hour at Durga Nagar in Adilabad district on July 4, 2021. The Limca Book of Records management said that each participant planted 21 saplings and it is the best feat in this category till date. The organisation praised Green India Challenge for making the massive plantation programme a big success, in a proof of collective effort and social awareness.

Rajya Sabha Member and Green India founder Santosh Kumar said that "Green India Challenge" finding a place in the Limca Book of Records and him receiving the certificate from the hands of the Chief Minister increased the responsibility. He said that Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna was the main reason for achieving this feat. With the inspiration of KCR, Jogu Ramanna took the decision to organise planting of saplings as part of the Green India Challenge on his birthday and got more than 3.5 lakh saplings planted within an hour. Stating that the record was made possible due to special efforts over a period of one month, Santosh Kumar extended special thanks to Jogu Ramanna and his followers.

Santosh Kumar also said that the record was dedicated to MLA Jogu Ramanna along with nature lovers Salumarada Thimmakka, Vanajeevi Ramaiah and Jadav Payang who are tirelessly working to promote green cover. He also dedicated it to everyone who took part actively in Green India Challenge.

On this occasion, Green India Challenge representatives released a video on the plantation programme capturing the journey right from the beginning.
