HYDERABAD: BRS MLA T Harish Rao has criticised the Telangana government for its apathy towards the plight of students in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and residential schools across the state. He expressed his dismay over the lack of basic amenities and poor living conditions in these institutions.

In a post on the micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter), Harish Rao cited examples from Peddapalli, Sangareddy, and Adilabad, highlighting the dire situation in ITIs. He pointed out the lack of sanitation, inadequate toilet facilities, and staff shortages, forcing students to endure hardships. He further revealed that computers, machinery, and library tools were non-functional, hindering practical learning. In some instances, rainwater leakage in classrooms added to the students' woes.

Harish Rao expressed his anger over the deteriorating condition of students in residential schools. He lamented that news of students falling ill due to contaminated food, snake bites, and dengue fever had become commonplace. He criticised the unhygienic conditions in most hostels, describing them as breeding grounds for mosquitoes and flies. He further revealed the absence of bathroom doors and a shortage of such facilities, causing inconvenience to students.

The BRS MLA also criticised the quality of food served in these schools, stating that the menu was not being followed and the food lacked quality. He alleged that students were forced to fill their stomachs with just rice and chilli powder due to the lack of palatable options. He further highlighted the poor state of water tanks, often covered in dirt and grime. The use of this contaminated water for bathing and other purposes was leading to skin diseases among students.

Questioning how students could focus on their education in such an environment, Harish Rao asked how parents could trust that their children's futures would be bright if they attended these residential schools. He expressed his disappointment that the reputation of these institutions, which flourished under the previous government, had been tarnished under the BRS government. He demanded that the government address the issues plaguing ITIs and residential schools immediately and provide the necessary amenities.
