Heavy rains lash Hyderabad, traffic disrupted
Torrential downpours flood low-lying areas and cause traffic chaos in Hyderabad, with the Meteorological Department forecasting more rain for the next four days.
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad was pounded by heavy rain on Monday morning, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas and throwing traffic off-kilter.
The downpour, which began at around 6:30 am and lasted for about an hour, affected several areas, including Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, Erramanzil, Kukatpally, Khairatabad, Lakdikapul, Madhapur, Balanagar, Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Yousufguda, Masab Tank, Secunderabad, and Uppal.
The heavy downpour caused knee-deep water near Sanjeevaiah Park in Panjagutta, causing a massive traffic jam that stretched for almost a kilometre from the Panjagutta flyover. GH staff and police were deployed to clear the waterlogging and manage the traffic.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Hyderabad, forecasting showers for the next four days until August 15. The city is expected to experience cloudy weather with intermittent rain.
The Meteorological Centre has also issued a yellow alert for several districts in Telangana, predicting heavy rainfall in Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Warangal, Adilabad, Asifabad, Manchrial, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, and Hanamkonda districts. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 mph are also expected.
